Turfway Fall Championship gets a Delightful Kiss Hobeau Farms' homebred DELIGHTFUL KISS (Kissin Kris) made his synthetic track debut a winning one in Saturday's $100,000 Turfway Park Fall Championship S. (G3), rallying from off the pace to win by 1 1/4 lengths over the Polytrack. By virtue of his victory in the 1 1/2-mile event, the four-year-old gelding earned an automatic bid to the inaugural running of the Breeders' Cup Marathon on October 25. Winner of last year's Ohio Derby (G2) and Iowa Derby, Delightful Kiss is trained by Pete Anderson, who won the Belmont S. (G1) 50 years ago as a jockey. Sent off the 8-1 sixth choice among 10 runners, the winner returned $19, $11.20 and $7.60. With Calvin Borel in the saddle, the Florida-bred rated near the back of the pace behind splits of :25, :49 2/5, 1:15 2/5 and 1:41 3/5. He began to rapidly pick off rivals on the far turn and carried his momentum into the stretch, collaring pacesetter Canela (El Corredor) and Dominican (El Corredor) after turning for home. Delightful Kiss passed the 10-furlong mark in 2:07 1/5 with a one-length advantage and easily held off the late rally of runner-up Star Plus (Arg) (Alpha Plus), finishing up in 2:32 1/5. Star Plus gave back $8.60 and $7 at 6-1, and Dominican, who held gamely to finish a neck back in third at nearly 7-2, paid $3.80. The exacta totaled $121.40, the trifecta $570.40 and the 2-3-10-5 superfecta, with the 19-1 Canela holding fourth, was good for $6,352.40. Telling (A.P. Indy), 3-1 favorite Jade's Revenge (Quiet American), Taconeo (Ven) (Water Poet [Ire]), Storm the Castle (Smart Strike), Tres Copas (Northern Spur) and A. P. Xcellent (A.P. Indy) rounded out the order of finish. Delightful Kiss is out of the winning Deputy's Delight (French Deputy). The gray is a half to the unraced juvenile colt Trust the Deputy (Trust N Luck), a yearling colt by Honour and Glory and a weanling filly by Limehouse. This is the female family of 2000 Forego H. (G2) winner Shadow Caster (Future Storm). Now 19-5-3-2 overall, Delightful Kiss has earned $577,087.
