Koolmen Racing Stable's ORCHESTRATOR (Bernstein) took to a short lead
entering the stretch and out-finished Age of Humor (Distorted Humor) by a neck
in Saturday's $125,000
Bourbonette Oaks (G3) at Turfway Park. Unplaced in her two previous stakes
attempts on turf, the Kenny McPeek-trained sophomore filly switched to Polytrack
and registered her first stakes victory, completing a mile in 1:38 1/5 with Alex
Solis.
"She was very game today," Solis said. "She didn't want to get beat. I just
wanted to make sure she stayed in front. She needed that last race. It made the
difference today."
Helen Belen (Five Star Day) set the pace, registering fractions of :24 2/5,
:47 3/5 and 1:12 as the 8-5 favorite, and Orchestrator tracked the front runner
in second before advancing into contention on the far turn. Age
of Humor also raced close up but took the overland route on the final bend. She
had every chance to get past in the final furlong but couldn't reel in the
winner.
Off as the 7-1 fourth choice, Orchestrator paid $16.60, $7 and $5.60. Age of
Humor was worth $5.80 and $3.80 as the 5-1 third choice. Midway Holiday
(Harlan's Holiday) was another 2 1/4 lengths back in third at 12-1 and yielded
$9. Cactus Cadillac (Cactus Ridge), Absinthe Minded (Quiet American), Helen
Belen, Allegation (Closing Argument), Lisa's Kitten (Kitten's Joy) and Cascading
(A.P. Indy) rounded out the order of finish. Delitefully Wild (Offlee Wild) was
scratched.

The exotics returned $83.90 (exacta), $885.60 (trifecta) and $5,932 (7-9-1-3
superfecta).
Bred in Kentucky by Bryant Prentice III, Orchestrator initially sold for
$42,000 as a 2008 Keeneland September yearling before commanding $75,000 at the
2009 OBS February two-year-old sale. She's of the winning Temperence Hill mare
Lucky Socks, a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Beau's Town (Beau's Genius) and the
dam of an unnamed juvenile by Roman Ruler, and this is the female family of
Grade 1 queen Diplomat Lady (Forestry) and Grade 2 victress Dream Play
(Hennessy).
Orchestrator has now earned $155,496 from a 8-3-2-0 line. The Kentucky Oaks
(G1) is a now an option for the dark bay, but McPeek was non-committal.
"I'm not sure about the Kentucky Oaks," the conditioner said. "I'd prefer to
run her back on synthetic somewhere."
