A daylight winner in his three previous starts, COMEDERO (Posse) continued to
dazzle while making his graded stakes debut in Saturday's $100,000
Chick
Lang S. (G3), winning in hand by 3 3/4 lengths. The Michael Stidham-trained
gelding flashed to the front when the gates opened and recorded splits of :23
2/5 and :46 on a short lead. He easily drew off into the stretch under Robby
Albarado, passing the five-eighths mark in :57 3/5 with a four-length advantage,
and cruised to the finish line, completing six furlongs over the fast Pimlico
track in 1:10.
Owned by Peter Redekop B. C. Ltd., Comedero paid $3.40, $2.60 and $2.10 as
the 3-5 favorite among six three-year-old rivals. Latigo Shore (Malibu Moon)
rallied to be a clear second in the stretch and returned $5.60 and $3.40 at 8-1.
Quiet Invader (Songandaprayer), who applied some early pressure before weakening
in the stretch, held the show and the near 5-2 second choice gave back $2.40.
Kens Cape (Cape Town), Charles Russell (More Than Ready) and Gary D (Successful
Appeal) rounded out the order of finish.
The exotics yielded $25 (exacta), $50.20 (trifecta) and $234.20 (3-5-4-1
superfecta).
Bred in Arkansas by McDowell Farm, Comedero opened his racing career with a
12 1/2-length victory over maiden special weight opponents and then captured the
Razorback Futurity, both at Louisiana Downs. He added the Old Hickory S. at Fair
Grounds before rounding out his juvenile campaign with his only career setback,
an 11th in the Springboard Mile S. at Remington Park, his only start past six
furlongs. The bay opened 2010 with 4 1/2-length score in the Mountain Valley S.
at Oaklawn Park and garnered the restricted Rainbow S. by 10 lengths over the
same oval. Comedero entered Chick Lang off a nine-length trouncing in the Blue
and Gold S. at Charles Town and has now earned $266,700 from his seven-for-eight
career mark.
