Strike It Rich leads all the way in Boiling Springs
Strike It Rich improved her record to 8-4-0-1, $185,755. A 4 1/4-length maiden winner on the grass at Calder in November, she made her stakes debut next time out in the Sweetest Chant S. at Gulfstream Park, but failed to do herself justice when the race was rained off the turf. After trailing home fifth in the slop, Strike It Rich returned to the turf and finished a troubled third in a Gulfstream allowance. She hasn't lost since. Strike It Rich cleared her entry-level allowance condition in her very next start on April 23, rolling to a 2 1/4-length decision at the same course and one-mile distance. That effort paved the way for her Little Silver engagement, and her Boiling Springs triumph extended her winning streak to three. Bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings in Kentucky, Strike It Rich was purchased by her current connections for $350,000 as a Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling. She is the second registered foal from Grade 2 heroine Belle of Perintown (Dehere), whose first foal is the multiple stakes-placed Sumptuous (Hennessy). Her subsequent foals are a juvenile filly named Forest Goddess (Forestry) and an unnamed yearling filly by Giant's Causeway. Strike It Rich's third dam, Fantasy S. (G1) queen Jeanne Jones (Nijinsky II), was just pipped at the post in the 1987 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). She also placed in such events as the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Hollywood Starlet S. (G1). Jeanne Jones is a half-sister to Grade 2-placed sire Avenue of Flags (Seattle Slew), and she comes from the family of English Group 1 victress Teggiano (Ire) (Mujtahid).
