Daveron captures Beaugay On the same day that Team Valor International's Animal Kingdom (Leroidesanimaux [Brz]) won the Kentucky Derby (G1), that outfit's DAVERON (Ger) (Black Sam Bellamy) gutted out a neck win in Saturday's $98,000 Beaugay S. (G3) at Belmont Park, all while overcoming a bumpy start. Stalking the leader down the backstretch, jockey Eddie Castro sent Daveron three wide rounding the turn and they continued in that path down the lane, holding a rallying Gitchee Goomie (City Zip) to finish 1 1/16 miles on the firm inner turf in 1:42 4/5. Daveron entered the Beaugay owning a pair of black-type triumphs, but earned her initial graded score in this spot. She was last seen finishing second in the Long Island H. (G3) at Aqueduct on November 13, but trainer Graham Motion had her ready off the more than five-month break. The six-year-old chestnut now boasts a 14-5-3-1 career mark and has banked $217,642 in lifetime earnings.
