Up in Time in the Ramser

Anthony Ramsden and Three Chimneys Farm's Up in Time lived up to her name when getting the win in Sunday's Grade 3, $100,000 Harold C. Ramser Sr. Stakes at Santa Anita Park. The Simon Callaghan runner finished 1 1/4 lengths in front of Celestial Kitten on the line while completing a mile on the firm turf in 1:34 1/5 under jockey Martin Garcia.

"The race set up perfect," Garcia said. "She's a good filly and she took me to where I wanted to be. I wanted to get the jump on the other horses, and that's exactly what happened. When I asked her she just took off.

"I'm very lucky to ride for Simon Callaghan because he doesn't ride that many jocks, just the lucky ones I guess."

The Noverre sophomore miss stalked the early pace three wide before slipping up to take on leader Tales in Excess and Celestial Kitten rounding the turn. Up in Time kicked clear just past midstretch and had a comfortable margin as Celestial Kitten held Bauble Queen by a neck with fellow Callaghan trainee Imperalistic another head back in fourth.

"(Up In Time) had a good trip and she was traveling so easily through the race," Callaghan said. "She was a little handier on the pace than I expected she'd be, but she stayed on well and it was a good performance.

"(Imperialistic Diva) ran well at big odds (42-1). She's a really nice filly and she's only going to improve so I'm very happy with her," he added.

Sarah's Secret, the 9-5 favorite, followed the top four under the wire, with Entrustment, Glowing Spirit, Cathy's Crunches, Tales in Excess, Going for a Spin and Rosehill Dew completing the order of finish.

Up in Time was sent off the 5-1 third pick in the 11-filly field and paid $12.40, $6 and $4.20 for earning her second stakes victory. The chestnut claimed the Grade 2 San Clemente Handicap in late July and entered this one off a seventh in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks. She improved her mark to 10-4-0-1 and has now banked $198,576 lifetime.

Bred in Great Britain by Larry Stratton, Up in Time sold for $40,955 as a Tattersalls October yearling and is a daughter of the Inchinor mare Up at Dawn. She is from the same family as multiple champion sprinter Overdose (Starborough), the "Budapest Bullet" who was fourth in the Group 1 King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.
