Briefly holding the lead from the break, Dan Jelladian, George Todaro and
Jerry Hollendorfer's TRICKEY TREVOR (Demaloot Demashoot) temporarily lost that
advantage, but was able to regain command in the stretch en route to a three-length
victory in the $229,000 Churchill Downs H. (G2) on Saturday.Getting a good break under jockey Russell Baze, the seven-year-old veteran
dropped three lengths behind With Distinction (Storm Cat), who battled with 5-2 favorite Battle Won (Honour and Glory) through splits of :22 2/5 and :45
1/5. Trickey Trevor raced three wide around the turn and retook the lead in
upper stretch before gaining a 1 1/2-length margin going six furlongs in 1:09 1/5.
He had opened up to three lengths by the time he crossed under the wire, going
seven furlongs over a fast track in 1:21 3/5.
"His last two races -- mile and one eighths -- he just didn't relax at all,"
Baze said. "But today he came out of there like a shot and then those other two
(With Distinction and Battle Won) got to rushing up there and I took a hold and
he relaxed. This is my first win ever at Churchill and it sure feels good."
Sent off at 9-1, the Hollendorfer trainee retrieved $21, $9.40 and $7.20
while keying exotics of $192.60 (exacta), $1,928.80 (trifecta) and $10,850.40
for the 10-9-11-2 superfecta. With Distinction turned in a one-paced
performance, able to hold on for second at 7-1 and giving back $9 and $7.20 to
the public while Level Playingfield (Level Sands) rallied nicely to pick up the
bronze position and pay $8.60 at 17-1. Saintly Look (Saint Ballado) completed
the superfecta and was followed by Battle Won, Dreamsandvisions (Kipling),
Thunder Mission (Pulpit), Bucharest (Victory Gallop), Wild Tale (Tale of the
Cat) and Charging Indian (Indian Charlie). Vicarage (Vicar) was scratched from
the race.

"It looks like even a veteran horse can run a little bit differently,"
Hollendorfer said. "I wasn't real confident about that horse running with that
style (from off the pace). I thought we might jump out of there and get a soft
lead, but usually around here, that doesn't happen. He is going back home and
then we will make another plan for him."
Trickey Trevor scored his fourth black-type victory while chalking up his
first graded score. Purchased at the OBS March Two-Year-Olds in Training
Sale for $52,000, he now holds a record of 35-18-4-3 with a bankroll of $586,566
after the $134,881 earned on Saturday. He was bred in Florida by Edward Wiest
Family 98 and is the first registered foal out of the winning Silver Deputy mare
Show Your Pride, whose latest progeny is an unnamed yearling filly by Montbrook.
