Donald R. Dizney's homebred JOINT EFFORT (Runaway Groom) tracked just in
behind Morner (Broken Vow) during the early running of Saturday's $119,600
La
Troienne S. (G3), took over coming out of the turn and went on to post a 3
1/4 length score under Edgar Prado. The Dale Romans-trained sophomore filly
finished 7 1/2 furlongs on Churchill Downs' fast main track in 1:28 at nearly
7-1, paying $15.80, $6.60 and $4.20.Adieu (El Corredor) was the 8-5 favorite and returned $3.80 and $2.80 for
rallying to take second. Smart n Pretty (Elusive Quality), another 2 3/4 lengths
back in third, was worth $3.20 at 7-2, and next came Morner, Beholden (Cat
Thief), Sweet Belle (Deputy Commander), Classical Ryder (Brahms), Lake Alice
(Mt. Livermore) and Tactical Warning (Tactical Cat). The exotics paid out $54
(exacta), $168.60 (trifecta) and $1,125.60 (4-2-3-1 superfecta).
The Florida-bred Joint Effort is out of C. C. Princess (Conquistador Cielo),
who is also the dam of an unraced juvenile colt named Spirit Soars (Anet) and an
unnamed yearling filly by Runaway Groom. The chestnut miss started off the year
in style, taking the Sunshine Millions Oaks before dropping her last two while
competing in Grade 2s. She also owns placings in the Debutante S. (G3) and
Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies S. from last year, and now boasts a 12-4-3-1 mark
with $315,426 in earnings.
