Hello Liberty takes Nassau County

John Ferris, Mike Riley, David Gamble and J. Larry Jones' HELLO LIBERTY (Forest Camp) tracked the pacesetting Win McCool (Giant's Causeway) through splits of :22 1/5, :44 3/5 and 1:09 before taking over late in the stretch and just getting her neck down on the wire to capture the $205,600 Nassau County Breeders' Cup S. (G2) at Belmont Park on Saturday. Trained by Jones, the bay miss was sent off the 9-1 longest shot on the board under Norberto Arroyo Jr. to return $21.20, $9.50 and $4 while keying the $144 exacta and $621 trifecta.

"I knew (Migliore's) filly (Win McCool) was running really, really fast because my filly was running so hard," Arroyo said. "I thought I would be able to overtake her at the top of the stretch, but she kicked on and I thought it would be hard to get to her after that. Going inside was just a split-second decision. I saw Mig's filly started to drift. If I try to go around her, maybe we get beat. She really ran great."

Win McCool was the second-longest shot in the six-horse field at 7-1 and gave back $7.20 and $3.80 for easily taking second by 5 1/4 lengths over Swap Fliparoo (Exchange Rate), who paid $3.10 at 4-1. Diamond Spirit (Holy Bull) came next by 2 1/2 lengths and was followed by near 5-2 favorite Crystal Current (A.P. Indy) and How True It Is (Yes It's True).

Hello Liberty won the Peach Blossom S. by 3 1/2 lengths prior to this one and ran third in the Prairie Gold Juvenile S. last year. The sophomore filly's record now stands at 7-4-2-1 and she's amassed $233,314 in lifetime earnings. Bred in Kentucky by Brereton Jones, she sold to her current connections for $75,000 as a Keeneland September yearling. Hello Liberty is out of the unraced Witness Post (Gone West), who also has an unraced juvenile colt named Do I Havea Witness and an unnamed yearling, both by Include.
