Too Much Bling too much for rivals Stonerside Stable and Blazing Meadows Farm's TOO MUCH BLING (Rubiano) captured his fourth stakes victory of the year when annexing Saturday's $300,000 Carry Back S. (G2) at Calder Race Course. The gray sophomore raced in fourth through the opening quarter-mile in :21 2/5 and was only a head back in second as Mach Ride (Pentelicus) sped through the half-mile in :44. The duo dueled to the eighth-pole and then Too Much Bling took over on the outside under Edgar Prado. He would not be headed again en route to a two-length victory, stopping the clock in 1:10 2/5 over the fast track. "He has been running against tough competition at Belmont," Prado said. "He broke okay today but everybody went for the lead, so I took a little hold to put him in the clear. It was over then." Sent off as the 1-2 favorite, the Bob Baffert trainee returned $3, $2.40 and $2.10 while leading $2 exotics of $12 (exacta), $74.80 (trifecta) and $320.80 for the 6-1-3-2 superfecta. Mach Ride held on to second to give back $4.60 and $2.10 at 8-1, and Blazing Rate (Exchange Rate) was another three lengths back in third to return $2.20 at 20-1. Laptop Computer (Notebook) finished fourth and was followed by Northern Soldier (Yankee Victor), Yes He's the Man (Yes It's True), Folk Festival (GB) (Saint Ballado) and Lord Vicar (Vicar). "Well, I'm undefeated in the Summit of Speed now," said Baffert, who sent only Too Much Bling's groom and hotwalker to Miami. His only other previous runner in the Summit of Speed program at Calder was Woke Up Dreamin, who captured the 2005 Smile Sprint H. (G2). "I'm not going to run him too often now, I want to keep him fresh for the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) and then take him to Dubai next year." Bred in Ohio by Destiny Farm, Too Much Bling is out of the stakes-winning mare Rose Colored Lady (Formal Dinner) and is a half-brother to multiple stakes winners Barnsy (Langfuhr) and Ready for Roses (More Than Ready). Rose Colored Lady's latest foal is a yearling filly by Langfuhr. Earlier this season, Too Much Bling captured the San Vicente S. (G2), Bay Shore S. (G3) and San Miguel S. He now shows a mark of 10-5-1-2 with $509,674 in earnings.
