Filly bids Adieu to rivals at Delaware ADIEU (El Corredor) came into Saturday's $500,900 Delaware Oaks (G2) off just two starts this year, both of which were close finishes against top class rivals. With John Velazquez aboard, the Todd Pletcher-trained bay finally put it all together to get back to her winning ways, recording an easy 2 1/4-length win over the fast Delaware Park dirt. Content to settle just off the pace while running in third and fourth along the backstretch, Adieu stalked 4-5 favorite Hystericalady (Distorted Humor) through splits of :23 2/5, :47 3/5 and 1:12. Adieu made her move entering the final turn, rallying to the outside to circle Hystericalady and Peak Maria's Way (Pyramid Peak), who both began to weaken in the stretch. Amandatude (Aptitude) closed to grab a short lead through a mile in 1:37 1/5, but her time in front was short-lived as Adieu, sporting the colors of owner Michael Tabor, Mrs. John Magnier and Derrick Smith, strode past. The winner finished 1 1/16 miles in 1:43 3/5 while making her two-turn debut. Sent off the second choice at 5-2, Adieu paid $7, $4 and $3.40 to her faithful supporters while starting the $79 exacta. Amandatude held second by 3 1/2 lengths, giving back $11.40 and $5.60 at 15-1, and Gasia (Silver Deputy) completed the $315.20 trifecta in third while returning $4.20 at 6-1. Peak Maria's Way was a half-length up on Hystericlady, ending the $2,205.80 superfecta ($1) (5-8-7-1). Last Romance (Wild Rush) ran a one-paced sixth at the line and was followed by Diamond Spirit (Holy Bull) and Mia's Reflection (Halo's Image). Adieu made a name for herself last year when taking the Frizette S. (G1), Spinaway S. (G2) and Astoria S. She made her final two-year-old start a seventh in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), before returning to run second in the La Troienne S. (G3) in May and a good fourth in the Acorn S. (G1) prior to this one. The sophomore's line now reads 9-5-1-0 and she has accumulated $889,934 in lifetime earnings. Bred in Kentucky by Glencrest Farm, Adieu is out of the winning Irene's Talkin (At the Threshold), who is also the dam of multiple stakes-placed Clay's Rocket (American Chance), an unraced juvenile filly named Speak Wisely (Smart Strike) and an unnamed yearling filly by El Corredor. Adieu passed through the sales ring twice, bringing $140,000 as a Fasig-Tipton August yearling and then $300,000 as a Fasig-Tipton February juvenile.
