Apprentice Curatolo fractures clavicle

Apprentice jockey Ryan Curatolo fractured his clavicle when he fell from his mount, Vision of Jewels (Pollard's Vision), in Friday's 4TH race at Belmont Park, according to the NYRA jockey advocate. The expected recovery period for this type of injury is approximately six weeks.

Curatolo was unseated when Vision of Jewels stumbled and fell during the stretch run of the 5 1/2-furlong maiden event for two-year-old fillies. The jockey was taken by ambulance to North Shore University Hospital, where X-rays revealed the fracture.

Vision of Jewels was treated for several abrasions suffered in the fall, but otherwise appeared uninjured, according to her trainer, Seth Benzel.

A native of France, the 19-year-old Curatolo picked up the first stakes win of his career on Saturday afternoon at Belmont when he piloted Street Game (Street Cry [Ire]) to victory in the Hill Prince S. (G3).

Curatolo has 28 winners from 189 mounts since the Belmont spring/summer meet opened on April 29, good for fifth-place in the NYRA jockey standings through the conclusion of racing Friday.
