BREEDERS' CUP POST DRAW THEY
SAID IT
OCTOBER 29, 2012
"I like it. I'm good with it. It might have even been one of the
posts I'd have picked if I had first choice. He should be fine from there."

Bob Baffert on Classic favorite Game On

"That's fine. It's what I'm dealt; it's what I'll live with. I
would rather have had the six (outside of Game On Dude), but that's the way it
came out. I've got a rider (Brian Hernandez Jr.) I can trust, so we'll be fine
with it."
—Trainer Ian Wilkes on
Classic contender Fort Larned, drawn just to the inside of the favorite in post
4
"I think it's great. I didn't want him drawing an inside post.
He's such a big horse. The outside is perfect for him."
—Trainer Kathy Ritvo on
Mucho Macho Man, who landed in post 11 in the Classic
"There are no real bad post positions going a mile and a
quarter."
—Trainer
Kiaran McLaughlin, whose Classic hope Alpha will break from post 3
|
"It's a very strong field, even for a Classic. There are several
Grade 1 winners in there and Game On Dude, who was second last year is
definitely a very good horse and may be a great horse."
—Dennis O'Neill,
brother of trainer Doug O'Neill, who sends out Richard's Kid in the Classic
"She drew the rail, but that post position has been very
successful at this racetrack. Whatever scenario Grace Hall is faced with, she is
going to come out to Santa Anita and run fantastic."
—Trainer Tony Dutrow
issues a vote of confidence in Grace Hall ahead of the Ladies' Classic

| Wise Dan has been installed as the 9-5 favorite in the Mile
(Harold Roth/Horsephotos.com) |
"I don't really think it matters. He was in the three at Woodbine (for the
Woodbine Mile) and in the Shadwell (Turf Mile at Keeneland), I have his saddle
towel right here on the wall in my house, he was five. I'd rather be there than
on the outside. It looks like there is a lot of speed in there and he should be
able to get covered up."—Trainer Charles
Lopresti on Mile morning-line favorite Wise Dan, who drew post 2
"I love it. He usually gets the one, this time he got two ones (11). He
should be out in the clear with no excuses from there. Traffic is usually rough
in this race down inside, but he should be able to avoid it."
—Trainer Bill Spawr on
champion Amazombie's draw for his Sprint title defense
"The two will work. If I had my choice, I'd have taken somewhere in the
middle -- the five, six, or seven. But he's going to be in the second flight in
this race, sitting just off of them, so the two will be fine."
— Trainer Richard
Mandella on Sprint candidate Jimmy Creed
|
"I like it; I really do. I definitely did not want the one through four. It's
a good spot for when she wants to run. She can dictate what the others do from
there."
—Trainer "Buff" Bradley
on Filly & Mare Sprint morning-line favorite Groupie Doll, who drew post 9 in a
field of 10

(Cecilia Gustavsson/Horsephotos.com) |
"We were hoping for something toward the outside because there's
a lot of speed in that race and at seven-eighths she runs from off the pace."— Trainer John Sadler
on two-time Filly & Mare Sprint runner-up Switch hoping the third time's the
charm on Friday when she breaks from post 10
"We're OK with our two in here. The nine outside (for Power Broker) is all
right. It's not like you're out in the 14 or something like that. It will be OK.
The inside (for Title Contender) is good, too. We're going long here, so the
post isn't so important."
—Jim Barnes, assistant
to trainer Bob Baffert, on Juvenile candidates Power Broker and Title Contender
"He's sort of a 5 1/2-furlong specialist, so this is uncharted water for him
from any post. He should be able to sit a good trip from there though, and he's
been working well over the grass here."
—Mike McCarthy,
assistant to trainer Todd Pletcher, on post 9 for Turf Sprint morning-line
favorite Bridgetown
|
"She likes this race track and it's a great draw. She's been
touting herself in her works at Belmont, so she should be sitting on a nice
effort."
—McCarthy on last
year's Filly & Mare Sprint beaten favorite Turbulent Descent, who drew post 6
for Friday's renewal
"We certainly wanted to be more outside than inside; it gives us more
options. We certainly didn't want to be one through four. We expect he'll be close
to the pace, so the 11 is fine."
—Trainer Simon Callaghan
on Turf entrant Slim Shadey, a Santa Anita course specialist
