Magician's Royal Ascot participation in doubt after bruising

Magician has sustained "minor bruising" and a final decision as to his participation in Tuesday's St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot will be made on Sunday. While the injury is thought to be superficial at this stage, connections outlined provisional plans should the Irish Two Thousand Guineas winner be forced to sidestep the mile contest.

"Magician sustained minor bruising after receiving a knock (Thursday)," a statement issued on www.coolmore.com read. "Aidan is very happy with Magician today and he is 100 percent sound. A final decision will be made on Sunday whether or not he will run in Tuesday's St James's Palace Stakes. Should he not run, Mars will take his place and in the event of that happening Indian Chief will run in the  Tercentenary Stakes."

In other moves from the operation, plans for the Ballydoyle two-year-olds were also outlined.

"Stubbs, Sir John Hawkins and War Command are all probables for the Coventry and Fountain of Youth goes for the Windsor Castle. Bye Bye Birdie runs in Mallow (Cork) on Sunday, after which a decision will be made on the Queen Mary. Coach House is a probable for the Norfolk Stakes and Wonderfully is likely to represent us in the Albany. We plan to run both Friendship and Adeste Fideles in the Chesham Stakes."

Meanwhile, The Queen's Estimate on Friday headed the 19 entries remaining in an open-looking renewal of the Gold Cup on Thursday, with all involved hoping that last year's Queen's Vase heroine can follow up in the prestigious affair. Her success during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012 was the 21st in a 60-year period in the Royal silks, and the Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old returned to annex the venue's Sagaro Stakes May 1.

"Estimate is two out of two around Ascot and she was very impressive against the boys in the Sagaro Stakes there last month, but she needs to raise her game again to provide the result all of racing craves for," The Queen's Racing Manager John Warren said. "It would be terrific for The Queen if the dream could become reality, especially with Prince Philip having had such a difficult time."

Heading the opposition is the 2010 hero Rite of Passage, who is one of two from the Dermot Weld stable alongside Saval Beg Stakes scorer Pale Mimosa. While the former is not a certain starter if the ground continues to dry, Pale Mimosa also may not be asked to reappear so soon after her last race, but even in their absence there is set to be a considerable overseas presence.

Andre Fabre has Prix de Barbeville winner Last Train and Francois Doumen the Yorkshire Cup runner-up Top Trip in the race for France, while Germany is set to be represented by the Andreas Wohler-trained duo Altano and Earl of Tinsdal.

Godolphin will rely solely on last year's winner Colour Vision after withdrawing both Cavalryman and Willing Foe, with Aidan O'Brien also scratching a potential leading contender in Imperial Monarch.
