A Jazzy finish in the Gallant Bloom Team Valor Stables et al's JAZZY (Arg) (Mutakddim) overtook Pussycat Doll (Real Quiet) in midstretch and inched clear to a three-quarters of a length score in the $147,000 Gallant Bloom H. (G2) at Belmont Park on Saturday. Tracking in third early under Garrett Gomez, the five-year-old mare was asked for her best entering the final turn and she responded, stopping the teletimer for 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16 3/5 for trainer Mark Hennig. The bay was sent to post as the nearly 3-1 third choice and returned $7.80, $3.60 and $2.50. "She broke good and sat in the garden spot," Gomez said. "I wanted to give her a chance to see if she would take to the dirt (after racing exclusively on the turf.) Mark seemed to think so as she had trained well over it. She finished up strong enough to get there. It was a good effort first time on the dirt." "She's a neat little horse," Hennig agreed. "She had trained well going into it, and I know Garrett had a lot of confidence off the break. She was right in the bridle and handling everything pretty good." Hennig added that his charge could show up next in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint on October 26 at Monmouth Park. Cuaba (Smoke Glacken), the 5-2 favorite, was last early but rallied well to earn the place spot by a half-length. The runner-up gave back $3.50 and $2.20 while completing the $22.80 exacta. Pussycat Doll took a brief lead in the lane but tired in the final sixteenth, staying on for the show two lengths clear of her nearest foe. The 3-1 fourth choice paid $2.70 and finished off the $70.50 trifecta (3-5-2). Pacesetter Great Intentions (Cat Thief) was next and followed by Princess Janie (Elusive Quality). Jazzy earned her second consecutive win, following a score in the Capades S. over the turf at Saratoga. The import was second in the 2005 Odessa Stud Fillies Championship S. (SAf-G2), third in the 2006 South African Fillies Sprint (SAf-G1) and second while making her U.S. debut in the Incredible Revenge S. in late July. She now sports a lifetime line of 10-5-2-1, $186,716. The winner was bred in Argentina by Le Quebrada and is out of the unraced Jollie Fille (Southern Halo).
