More Than Ready colt top weanling in Australia After spirited bidding, a colt by More Than Ready attracted a final bid of A$240,000 to top Monday's second session of the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast. The weanling, offered by Rosari Farm as Hip No. 326, was purchased by Perth horseman Joe Byrne on behalf of his Singaporean-based client Ong Tiong Seng. "He was the nicest type in the sale," Byrne said. "I didn't really want to have to pay that much. It's tough buying the nice colts. It's been the same at sales everywhere this year -- the nice horses are selling well." The weanling is out of the unraced Lily Isabella (Anziyan), a half-sister to Group 1 winner Baldessarini (Green Perfume). Byrne said the colt will receive his early training in Perth, but would most likely race in Singapore. Byrne kept busy at the weanling auction, buying seven horses for A$632,000. Six of the seven youngsters were purchased for Ong Tiong Seng. Patinack Farm, a major force on the buying end of the market, made its sales debut during Monday's session. In its first draft of horses, the farm was represented by three of the top four prices for the session. The 20 weanlings from Patinack Farm all sold, grossing A$954,000. Rick Connolly, General Manager of Patinack Farm, said the results exceeded expectations. "Patinack are here to sell," Connolly said. "All of the weanlings made terrific money and we had a 100 percent clearance. The results went better than we thought they might -- so we are very happy. It's been a great day." A Danzero three-quarter brother to Group 2 winner Downhill Racer (Danehill Dancer) topped the Patinack Farm results when purchased by Deburgh Equine for A$210,000. During the two-day select weanling sale, Magic Millions sold 372 horses for a total of A$8,299,500 and an average of A$22,310. Of the 522 lots catalogued, 82 were withdrawn and 68 failed to sell for a clearance rate of 85 percent. "The past two days have offered buyers with some great opportunities," Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester said. "It was pleasing to see the clearance rate increase and the competitive for the feature lots was quite strong." Selling continues Tuesday with the general sale of weanlings.
