First winner for Grand Reward

Grade 2 hero GRAND REWARD (Storm Cat) had his first winning offspring on Thursday when Angus Kahn, a two-year-old colt, strolled home a 4 3/4-length victor of the 1ST race at Presque Isle Downs. Ridden by Scott Spieth in the five-furlong Tapeta track test, the Eric Reed charge led wire-to-wire and stopped the clock in :57 4/5 for owner/breeder Jerry Little. It was the chestnut's second career start following a runner-up effort in an April 23 maiden special weight at Keeneland.

Grand Reward captured his career debut in England for trainer Aidan O'Brien, and was immediately tossed in against group company, recording a third in the Gimcrack S. (Eng-G2) and a second in the Mill Reef S. (Eng-G2). He ended his juvenile campaign with a sixth-placing in the Middle Park S. (Eng-G1), and opened his three-year-old season with a runner-up effort in the Tetrarch S. (Ire-G3). The bay earned his only other win overseas in an allowance during his sophomore season, but also managed to place in three other black-type events, including the Ballygallon Stud S. (Ire-G3).

It only took three races for Grand Reward to earn his first win after shipping to the United States, and he would go on to take the Oaklawn H. (G2). He retired from the barn of D. Wayne Lukas with a 24-4-3-4 line and $552,026 in career earnings.

Grand Reward is the fourth registered foal out of champion Serena's Song (Rahy), who defeated the boys in the Haskell Invitational H. (G1) and Jim Beam S. (G2) during her three-year-old campaign. The bay captured 11 total Grade 1s during her career, and would go on to have immediate success in the breeding shed, foaling Serena's Tune (Mr. Prospector), a three-time stakes winner and dam of dual Group 3 winner Vocalised (Vindication). Sophisticat (Storm Cat) was Serena's Song's second foal, and she would go on to take the 2002 Coronation S. (Eng-G1) and place in the French One Thousand Guineas (Fr-G1) before producing listed winner and Grade 3-placed Sefroua (Kingmambo) and Group 1 third Pursuit of Glory (Ire) (Fusaichi Pegasus).

Among Serena's Song's other offspring are Harlington (Unbridled), winner of the 2006 Gulfstream Park H. (G2), an unnamed yearling colt by Storm Cat and a 2009 filly by Unbridled's Song.

Grand Reward stands for $8,500 live foal at Hill 'n' Dale Farms near Lexington, Kentucky.
