On the Kentucky Derby worktab

Over a fast track at Calder on Sunday, Grade 3 winner SMOOTH AIR (Smooth Jazz), who most recently finished second to Big Brown (Boundary) in the March 29 Florida Derby (G1), worked a mile in 1:41.

Trained by Bennie Stutts Jr., Smooth Air has $290,000 in graded-stakes earnings. He is scheduled to work at Calder once more on Saturday before boarding a charter flight to Louisville, Kentucky, the next day.

Stakes winner and Grade 2-placed ATONED (Repent), fourth in the Illinois Derby (G2) most recently, worked four furlongs in :47 on Keeneland's Polytrack. The dark bay colt could show up next in Saturday's Lexington S. (G2), according to trainer Todd Pletcher, who said he needs to talk it over with owner Cot Campbell of  Dogwood Stable.

Last out allowance victor and fellow Pletcher trainee BEHINDATTHEBAR (Forest Wildcat) covered the same distance in the same time. The bay colt, fifth in the El Camino Real Derby (G3) two back, is considered possible for the Lexington.
