Search begins for Dogwood Dominion Award winner Nominations for the 16th annual Dogwood Dominion Award are now being accepted to honor an unsung hero in the Thoroughbred racing industry. Nominees should be individuals who have had a positive effect on the racing/breeding environment in which they are involved. This year's winner will be honored at a luncheon on July 30 at the Saratoga Reading Rooms and presented with a $5,000 check and a bronze statue of Dominion. Judges for this award are Anne Campbell, Penny Chenery and Jay Hovdey. "Our Dogwood Dominion Award is now well into its teenage years, and like a parent observing a child's sweet sixteen birthday party, it seems unbelievable to me that the time has passed so quickly," said Cot Campbell, president of Dogwood Stable. "We have presented $75,000 since the award began, and I am proud of the incredible people who have won this award -- and the many fine people who have been nominated for it." The award was inspired by multiple stakes winner Dominion, who was campaigned by Dogwood Stable in the 1970s and then went on to become a five-time champion sire in England. Upon Dominion's death in 1993, Campbell created the award to recognize the industry's unsung heroes -- the behind-the-scenes men and women who work to create a positive influence in their work environment. Nominations should be received no later than June 23 and be mailed or faxed to: Mary Jane Howell, Dogwood Stable, P.O. Box 1549, Aiken, SC 29802. Fax: 803-642-2747. A nomination form can be found at www.dogwoodstable.com.
