Jardin, Mani Bhavan to have showdown in Spinaway

The rousing winners of Saratoga's two juvenile filly fixtures are among a field of eight who will face-off in Sunday's $250,000 Spinaway S. (G1) over seven furlongs. JARDIN (Montbrook), who captured the Schuylerville S. (G3) in the slop by four lengths on opening day, and MANI BHAVAN (Storm Boot), the seven-length victress of the Adirondack S. (G2), will each put their undefeated status on the line in the Spa course's premiere divisional contest.

Jardin, a three-length Churchill maiden winner in her debut, is a stalking type while Mani Bhavan, a 9 1/4-length debut winner at Delaware, is all speed. The way the race shapes up on paper, the former might have the edge as Mani Bhaven is sure to see a plethora of early speed from several rivals breaking inside of her. Among these are MINE ALL MINE (Belong to Me), a graduate on July 24 in her fourth start, and AUGUST RUSH (Milwaukee Brew), who graduated at first asking on the turf last month. A couple with more versatile styles are CASANOVA MOVE (Langfuhr), a dominating maiden winner on August 10, and COLLEGIATE (Saarland), who made a middle move in the Schuylerville before fading to fourth.

GIRLFRIENONTHESIDE (Indian Charlie), third in the Schuylerville and second in the Astoria S. in her last two, rounds out the Spinaway field along with Astoria sixth-placer WINNING BREW (Milwaukee Brew).

Earlier on the card, three-year-olds will compete in the $100,000 Saranac S. (G3) over 1 3/16 miles on the turf. Among the notables are READY'S ECHO (More Than Ready), who finished in a dead-heat for third in the Belmont S. (G1) and is making his turf debut; the multiple Grade 3-placed NISTLE'S CRUNCH (Van Nistelrooy); Grade 2-placed THOU SWELL (Aptitude); MARLANG (Langfuhr), winner of the Breeders' S, the third leg of the Canadian Triple Crown; and Jersey Derby winner MR MACCOOL (Giant's Causeway), who is also cross-entered in Saturday's Kent S. (G3) at Delaware Park.

Also on Sunday is the $80,000 Caveat Competor S. for three-year-old fillies going one mile on the inner turf. SEA CHANTER (War Chant) will attempt to rebound from a lackluster showing in the August 9 Madame Jumel S. in her first start since taking the Miesque S. (G3) last November. Joining her are French imports OSSUN (Fr) (Anabaa) and MOUSSE AU CHOCOLAT (Hennessy), the latter the beaten favorite in the July 25 Lake George S. (G2).
