Callwood Dancer seeks Cardinal

Canadian Grade 2 winner CALLWOOD DANCER (Ire) (Danehill Dancer) will invade Churchill Downs on Saturday for the $100,000 Cardinal H. (G3), and the four-year-old looks tough to beat in the 1 1/8-mile turf affair for distaffers. Trained by Roger Attfield, the chestnut miss exits a pair of excellent runner-up finishes in the E.P. Taylor S. (Can-G1) and Canadian S. (Can-G2), finishing ahead of Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) winner Forever Together (Belong to Me) in the latter and Filly & Mare Turf runner-up Sealy Hill (Point Given) in the former. Callwood Dancer will face nine rivals with regular rider Eurico Da Silva.

All Along S. (G3) heroine LADY DIGBY (Grand Slam) merits respect. Fifth in the Diana S. (G1) most recently, the Graham Motion trainee has also recorded a victory in the Dahlia S. and runner-up finishes in the Gallorette H. (G3) and Hillsborough S. (G3) this season. Ramon Dominguez will be in for the ride. The Eddie Kenneally-trained BALLYMORE LADY (War Chant) will bring a commendable 3-2-1-0 local mark into the Cardinal, finishing second in the June 14 Mint Julep H. (G3) in her most recent start under the Twin Spires. Jesus Castanon will pick up the mount.

Arlington Matron H. (G3) winner INDESCRIBABLE (Pleasant Tap) will switch back to the turf on Saturday for conditioner Bill Mott. Fourth most recently in the Personal Ensign S. (G1), the four-year-old chestnut is 1-0-0 from two starts on the sod. Grade 3 queen MERIBEL (Peaks and Valleys), a four-time stakes winner for Helen Pitts, will enter off an encouraging allowance score at Keeneland.
