Gulfstream cancels 1ST and 6TH races

Management at Gulfstream Park canceled the 1ST and 6TH races on Sunday due to a temporary quarantine of horses stabled at Calder Race Course. The remainder of the card, including the All-Turf Pick 4, was scheduled to be run as originally carded. Post time for the 2ND was set for 1:44 p.m. (EDT).

Dr. Mike Short, DVM of the Florida State Department of Agriculture ordered the Calder barn area closed late Saturday afternoon in response to an unidentified sick horse. While horses stabled at Gulfstream Park, Palm Meadows Training Center and other facilities throughout South Florida remain unaffected, the move impacted more than a third of the 118 horses entered for Sunday's races.

"We felt it was only fair to the horsemen who have invested time and money to participate in Sunday's races, to go forward as planned wherever possible," Gulfstream Park President and General Manager Ken Dunn said.

Entries for Wednesday's and Thursday's programs have already been drawn, with no changes planned until more is known about the status of the Calder barn area. Entries for Friday's program at Gulfstream were to be taken and drawn Sunday as per normal.

With the cancellation of the 1ST and 6TH races, all multi-race wagers involving those two races -- Daily Double, Pick 3's and the Pick 6 -- have also canceled.

The 7TH race kicks off the All Turf Pick 4 and was scheduled to go with an estimated post time of 4:12 pm.
