That's how much Brisnet.com members have won just in handicapping tournaments over
the past few years. Ultimate PP user Tom Quigley started off the New Year taking down
the $100,000 TurfVivor contest, and the hot streak for BRIS handicappers hasn't let up
all year.
Richard Lloyd and his partner Robert Leo took down the grand prize of $128,160 by
winning the prestigious Orleans Handicapping Championship in March. BRIS success didn't
end there as members Bob Brendler ($64,080) and Young Ward ($32,040) filled out the top
three spots in a contest with 801 total entrants.
Data file user Joe Hinson added another handicapping tournament win to his impressive
resume. Hinson, a winner of many tournaments, captured the Bally's Las Vegas contest in
April, taking home the top prize of $48,687.
2001 Handicapper of the Year Judy Wagner finished full of run in the inaugural River
Downs Las Vegas Championship. After hitting a 35-1 longshot in a turf race at Arlington
Park, Wagner quickly credited the publication SIRE STATS 2004 for identifying the winner.
Her husband Bryan had recently suffered a tough-beat, finishing 4th (one spot from Vegas)
in the Bettor Racing OTB contest. Brisnet members Patrick Gianforte, Mary Ann Hartman and
Mike Labriola qualified by sweeping the top three spots at that event in Sioux Falls.
The Bradley Teletheater was the site of another contest sweep by Brisnet.com members.
With two spots on the line for Vegas, members Joe Boyle and Paul Shurman took home the
money and the qualifying trips. Interestingly, both Boyle and Shurman like to use the
Insider Picks & Power Plays selection sheet.
Del Mar held a $5,000 invitational-only tournament in late July and six of the top
ten finishers were Brisnet.com members, including Grand Prize winner Damion Ronchevich,
a regular Stable Alert and Ulimate PP user.
Brisnet.com members swept the top three spots in the Belmont Park handicapping contest
July 10 -11, as Dave Gutfreund, a three-time qualifier, took down the $25,000 top prize.
John Macklin and Rich Gaetano finished second and third, respectively.
Ultimate PP users ran one-two in the Canterbury Park Dog Days of Summer contest in
mid-August. Brisnet Marketing Director Rich Nilsen went nearly wire to wire as long time
Ultimate PP user Dave Walczak made an incredible rally to get up for 2nd. Down to only
$90 in his bankroll, Minneapolis resident Walczak built his bankroll up to $3,884 on day
two to claim one of the two coveted trips to Vegas. Nilsen qualified for his fourth trip
to the championship event.
"I could not have done it without the Ultimate PPs," explained Walczak, a member
since 1999. "The pace figure and pedigree information from Brisnet helped with me nail
the king-kong superfecta at Canterbury. I wouldn't be going to Las Vegas without
Brisnet.com and I won't be without at the NHC in January."
Insider Picks & Power Plays and Wizard user Ed Meyer captured the $10,000 grand
prize at Trackside Louisville, earning the former Turfway Park employee his first trip
to Las Vegas.
Numerous other Brisnet members have fared well in contests throughout the country,
and we wish all of them the best of luck throughout the tournament season and next
January in Las Vegas.
The purse for the sixth annual Las Vegas Championship has been upped to $400,000
this year and will be held at Bally's from January 21-22, 2005. ESPN will have taped
coverage on the contest for the first time.
All five NTRA Handicappers of the Year are members of Brisnet.com. For more details
on the success of members visit Brisnet.com/halloffame.
