Champagne Room wrapped up two-year-old filly championship honors when upsetting the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Santa Anita Park on November 5.
That was only the second win of the year for the Peter Eurton pupil. Champagne Room ran second in her career debut at Del Mar on July 16 but that didn’t deter her connections from pitting her against stakes rivals next out.
It also didn’t scare off the betting public, as the Broken Vow filly was made the 8-5 favorite for the Sorrento Stakes (G2) next out. She scored by 1 1/4 lengths to break her maiden and continued her journey in the Del Mar Debutante Stakes (G1) on September 3.
Champagne Room rounded up third that day and followed it up with a fourth-place effort in the Chandelier Stakes (G1) while making her first start at Santa Anita a month later.
The bay miss was sent off at 33-1 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, moved up to take command rounding the turn and easily drew off to prevail by three parts of a length.
That moved her career line to 5-2-2-1 and Champagne Room closed out her juvenile campaign with $1,286,600 in lifetime earnings.
