Spendthrift Farm's dual champion Beholder (Henny Hughes) may find herself

facing the boys after a seven-length romp in the $300,750

Clement L. Hirsch S. (G1) at Del Mar.

The five-year-old mare, who is trained by Richard Mandella for B. Wayne

Hughes, easily took command of the race rounding the turn and drew off under

jockey Gary Stevens. The duo were seven lengths clear on the wire while stopping

the clock for 1 1/16 miles over the fast main track in 1:43.81.

Mandella mentioned in the post-race interview the $300,000 Zenyatta S. (G1)

at Santa Anita Park on September 26 would be the conservative path to take with

Beholder on her journey to a second Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) title. In the

next breath, though, the conditioner added if she continued doing good there was

a possibility she could show up in three weeks for the $1 million Pacific

Classic (G1) at Del Mar.
