No Excuse Needed colt tops Karaka sale

Last updated: 2/1/07 7:58 PM

A colt from the second crop of No Excuse Needed (GB) brought NZ$230,000

to top Thursday's session of the three-day Select Sale at Karaka in New Zealand.

The price was a record for the sale -- the previous record was NZ$190,000 for a

Cape Cross (Ire) colt in 2004.

Michael Stedman was the winning bidder for the dark bay colt, consigned as Lot

600, from the Little Avondale Stud draft. The colt was produced by the Centaine

mare Cymbidium.

A total of 26 yearlings have passed the six-figure barrier after two days,

compared to eight at last year's sale. The auction's gross has already surpassed

the 2006 total. Over the course of the first two days, 271 yearlings have sold

for NZ$13,754,500, 7 percent more than the 2006 gross of NZ$12,834,250 despite

99 fewer lots sold.
