Breeders' Cup releases telecast schedule for Challenge races
Breeders' Cup releases telecast schedule for Challenge
races
The Breeders' Cup announced Thursday the ESPN telecast
schedule for the Breeders' Cup Challenge races leading into the 2010 Breeders'
Cup World Championships at Churchill Downs, November 5-6. The action will be
highlighted by Saturday's Lady's Secret S. (G1) at Hollywood Park, where 2009
Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) heroine ZENYATTA (Street Cry [Ire]) will look to
extend her undefeated streak to 19. The races will be televised live on ESPN,
ESPN Classic and ESPN3.
Zenyatta's quest to stay perfect in her final race before going for a title
defense in the Breeders' Cup Classic is the high point of the telecast schedule.
The Lady's Secret will be televised live Saturday on ESPN between two NCCA
college football games at approximately 7:15 p.m. (EDT). The Lady's Secret will
also be part of a Breeders' Cup Challenge telecast (6:30-8 p.m. EDT) on ESPN
Classic and ESPN3.
The Breeders' Cup Challenge telecast will then move to Lexington, Kentucky,
for Keeneland's opening weekend. Coverage begins on October 8 with the
Alcibiades S. (G1), a Juvenile Fillies (G1) qualifier on ESPN2 and ESPN3. The
live racing will continue on October 9-10 with the Shadwell Turf Mile (G1), a
Mile (G1) qualifier, and Spinster S. (G1), a Ladies' Classic (G1) qualifier.
"This year's Breeders' Cup Challenge telecasts on ESPN, is full of excitement
as the world looks on in anticipation to see if Zenyatta can remain undefeated
heading into this year's Breeders' Cup," Breeders' Cup President and CEO Greg
Avioli said. "Televising the Lady's Secret, a marquee race live during ESPN's
College Football doubleheader will ensure all sports fans can be witness to a
remarkable moment in sports. Given the increased participation and success of
international Thoroughbreds in the Breeders' Cup World Championships, we thought
it would be fitting to close our ESPN telecast schedule with international
races."
The ESPN telecast schedule will coincide with the conclusion of the Breeders'
Cup Challenge Series and end on October 16 with international races at Woodbine
in Toronto and Newmarket in the United Kingdom, featuring some of the world's
top Thoroughbred's who will compete and qualify for the Breeders' Cup World
Championships.
The broadcast team will include Joe Tessitore hosting with color analysts
Randy Moss and Jerry Bailey, reporters Jeannine Edwards and Jay Privman, and
handicapping from Hank Goldberg.
