Grade 1 winner A P VALENTINE (A.P. Indy) had his first winner as a sire on

Sunday when Higgie captured the 1ST race at Monmouth Park. Sent off at odds of

6-1, the Cam Gambolati trainee completed five furlongs on the fast dirt in :59 4/5

under jockey C.C. Lopez, winning by 3 1/4 lengths. The juvenile filly earned

$12,000 for the victory in her maiden debut.

Trained by Nick Zito, A P Valentine highlighted his career when he annexed

the 2000 Champagne S. (G1) by 1 3/4 lengths over the following season's Horse of the Year, Point Given. He rounded out his two-year-old campaign in the Breeders' Cup

Juvenile (G1), where the bay colt finished last as the 5-2 favorite. The next

year, A P Valentine ran seventh in the Kentucky Derby (G1) before posting

back-to-back second-place finishes in the Preakness S. (G1) and Belmont S. (G1),

both won by Point Given.

Over two years of racing, A P Valentine compiled a record of 13-3-2-2 with

$864,170 in earnings. He currently stands at Cedar Creek Farm near Breham,

Texas, for $5,000.
