A Shin Hikari wires Hong Kong Cup
A Shin Hikari was expected to be leading the way in Sunday's Hong Kong Cup
(HK-G1) at Sha Tin, but the son of Deep Impact was also expected to be
caught at some point. Instead, the gray four-year-old kept motoring under jockey
Yutaka Take to prevail and cap off a big night for Japan.
Earlier on Sha Tin's Hong Kong International Race (HKIR) program, Maurice
snapped nine years of local dominance in the Hong Kong Mile (HK-G1) while
giving jockey Ryan Moore a double on the day.
Moore piloted Highland Reel to victory in the Hong Kong Vase (HK-G1) over
defending champion Flintshire.
Peniaphobia ran second in last year's Hong Kong Sprint (HK-G1) but wouldn't be
denied again when scoring in Sunday's renewal.
Back in the United States,
Discreetness proved best by a nose in the Springboard Mile, Remington Park's
closing day feature. The juvenile colt is now headed to Oaklawn Park's Smarty
Jones S. on January 18 to begin his journey on the Road to the 2016 Kentucky
Derby.
