A promising field of 10 two-year-old fillies will line up in the $200,000

Adirondack Breeders' Cup S. (G2) at Saratoga on Wednesday. MAGICAL RIDE (Storm

Cat) will likely be favored off her extremely impressive debut, and we'll

side with the speedy lass in this dash. Trained by George "Rusty" Arnold, the January foal

was awesome in her debut, breaking like a shot on the lead and powering home an

emphatic four-length winner under today's rider, Fernando Jara. Produced from

the Saratoga Grade 1-winning sprinter Victory Ride (Seeking the Gold), the dark

bay is bred to be good early and enjoy the Saratoga surface, and looks like the real deal in here. The outermost

post should also be advantageous to the lass.

EARLY VINTAGE (Jump Start) put in a very professional debut for trainer Dale

Romans and could surprise. The expensive two-year-old purchase

defeated a promising 12-horse field in her Churchill debut and has posted two

solid works over this oval in preparation for this. The miss did her best running

late in her initial outing and could be the one to pick up all the pieces from the

expected hot pace. Rafael Bejarano has the riding assignment.

CHAGALL (Successful Appeal) has done little wrong from two career starts,

including a game runner-up effort in the Debutante S. (G3) most recently for

trainer Todd Pletcher. The bay filly fetched a bid of $825,000 at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton

February Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale for her current owners and seems poised

to reward them with a good showing in here. We're a bit concerned about the rail

draw in this sharp field, but we have faith in jockey John Velazquez that he'll

be able to manage a sensible trip in here. The bay is a top win candidate with minor

improvement.

RICHWOMAN (Successful Appeal) is unbeaten from three starts, including the

Debutante last out, and will certainly merit attention at the windows. The Bill Heiligbrodt homebred has been impressive in all three outings

thus far, but may

have a lower ceiling than those we've picked ahead of her. We would not be

surprised in the least if this dark bay was right there at the end, but we're

not excited by the expected low price. Shaun Bridgmohan will ride for Scott

Blasi.

OCTAVE (Unbridled's Song), also conditioned by Pletcher, was sharp in her

debut win before placing in the Astoria S. in her latest effort. We love the

morning drills for this lass and rate her as a contender, although we think

she'll come up a bit short and settle for a minor award. Garret Gomez will pilot

the filly, who looks like she'll be better with added ground.

TORA (El Corredor) exits a 12 1/4-length win over high-priced claimers and

would be a factor with a repeat of that one. The dark bay was claimed out of her

win by the dangerous Richard Dutrow, and will be guided by Edgar Prado, two

plus factors in her corner. We don't envision the filly getting a clear lead

early and we're not sure how she'll respond to the expected pace pressure, so

we'll use her only on the bottom of the exotics.

POST INVADER (Salt Lake) registered two facile wins down south for

conditioner Gerald Procino and gets the acid test in here with this group. The

late-running juvenile filly will have to pass many talented runners in order to

gain the top placing in here, something we have a hard time envisioning at this

time of her career. We respect the filly and think she'll run a good one, but we're

not certain if her best is good enough. Another exotics candidate.

LEMON DROP GIRL (Lemon Drop Kid) beat lesser, is bred to run long, and

recorded a lower BRIS Speed figure in her debut, leading us to believe she'll have

trouble with this bunch. We love the connections of TRUE ADDICTION (Yes It's

True) and think the filly has a future, but we have trouble endorsing her in

here. EXPERTISE (Hennessy) took four tries to break her maiden and seems a cut

below these.
