Amazer tops first open session at OBS

AMAZER (Quaker Ridge), a stakes-placed six-year-old mare in foal on a

February 12 cover to Exchange Rate, sold for the top price of $40,000 to Marion

Montanari at Wednesday's first open session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales

Company's Fall Mixed Sale.

Consigned by Janie Roper, agent for Padua Stables, Amazer won or placed in

six of seven starts and earned $61,410. She finished third in the 2003 Forward

Gal S. The chestnut mare, who was cataloged as Hip No. 700, is out of stakes

winner Mighty Rose (Mighty Appealing) and is a half-sister to multiple stakes-placed

Mighty David (End Sweep).

Hip 733, a colt by first-year sire Werblin, was the top-priced weanling, bringing $30,000

from C&C&S Bloodstock. Consigned by Michelle Redding, agent, the

chestnut colt is out of the Personal Hope mare Ms Rancho Santa Fe and comes from

the same female family as multiple champion Tosmah and two-time leading sire

Halo.

On Wednesday, the sales company reported 144 horses sold for $1,004,400, a

106.2 percent increase compared to the same session last year when 108 horses

sold for $487,200. The average price rose 54.6 percent, from $4,511 to $6,975.

The buyback rate was 32 percent compared to 32.5 percent in 2006.

The second open session begins Thursday at 11 a.m. (EDT).
