Audacious Chloe bests 'Anna in Gaily Gaily

Last updated: 2/25/07 5:26 PM

Team Valor Stables LLC and Never Tell Farm's AUDACIOUS CHLOE (More Than

Ready) overtook 4-5 choice Dreaming of Anna (Rahy) in late stretch to secure a

half-length win in the $76,500

Gaily Gaily S. over the firm Gulfstream

Park turf on

Sunday. Trained by Todd Pletcher, the chestnut filly completed the 1 1/16 miles

in 1:41 3/5 under John Velazquez to earn her second career stakes tally. Sent

off the 3-1 second choice, the winner returned $8.60, $3.20 and $2.60 while

keying the $1 exotics: $10.50 exacta, $53.50 trifecta and $291.80 superfecta

(4-5-3-2).

Dreaming of Anna was hustled toward the rail and on the lead when the gates

opened, but Fanlight Fanny (Lear Fan) quickly passed the juvenile champion and

grabbed pacesetting duties. She held the

advantage through fractions of :22 4/5, :48 1/5 and 1:11 4/5 for the opening six

furlongs, with Dreaming of Anna tracking in perfect position. As the group

tightened and approached the final turn, Dreaming of Anna took a short lead but

was quickly joined by Audacious Chloe, who was beginning to hit her best stride.

It was a two-horse race through the final furlong, but there was no questioning

who was best on this occasion.

The runner-up was good for $2.60 and $2.10, while Communique (Smart Strike)

closed from well back to earn third 2 3/4 lengths farther back. Show paid $2.80

for the nearly 10-1 shot, who was followed by Dantrelle Light (Colony Light),

Bishop Estates (Pulpit), Fanlight Fanny, Suaveness (Suave Prospect) and Gatorize

(Exploit). Pay Wright (French Envoy) was withdrawn.

Audacious Chloe improved her lifetime mark to 6-3-2-0, $148,139. The

sophomore miss

captured the Junior Champion S. and was a close second in the Jessamine S. in

her final two starts of 2006.

The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by Highclere Inc., and attracted a

bid of $300,000 at the 2005 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale. She is out of the Manila

mare Audacious, who is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Sky Blue Pink

(Strawberry Road [Aus]) and stakes heroine Freddie Frisson (Dixieland Band), the

dam of multiple Grade 1 hero First Samurai (Giant's Causeway). Audacious Chloe

has an unnamed two-year-old half-sister by El Corredor.
