Australia's Inglis Classic sale opens Sunday

The two-day William Inglis Classic Sale kicks off on Sunday. Usually

sandwiched between Magic Millions and Karaka, Inglis moved the sale back three

weeks this year, and the response from buyers has been positive.

The Classic average has hovered around A$39,000 in recent years compared with

MM and Karaka, which both average more than A$100,000, yet the first sale of the

season for Inglis has garnered a worthy following because it consistently proves

the source of highly useful horses. Of course, the most famous of these is world

champion sprinter Silent Witness (El Moxie), a A$55,000 purchase for astute

agent John Foote. Other Classic flagbearers include Caulfield Guineas winner

God's Own (Redoute's Choice), a A$220,000 purchase who returned recently to

finish runner-up in the Lightning S. (Aus-G1).

Danehill Dancer has 14 cataloged, including a possible sale-topper in Lot No.

458, a bay colt from Fabled (Seattle Dancer) to be offered by Yarraman Park.

Another potential star is Lot 140, a chestnut colt by Danehill Dancer from

Portrait (Octagonal), herself a half-sister to Australian Group 2-winning

sprinter Jet Spur (Flying Spur).

"The Classic sale has the support of the state's leading breeders in NSW and

around the country, so we are selling horses reared at the best studs," Inglis

director Jonathan D'Arcy said. "They may not have the pedigrees of horses going

to Easter, but they've been reared on the same quality pasture and they have

been given every chance. Often they are from mares whose progeny may not have

had the chance to perform yet, but they are by good, proven sires like Danehill

Dancer, Tale of the Cat, Secret Savings, Flying Spur and Royal Academy."
