Barbaro, Flashy Bull prep for Florida Derby

Last updated: 3/27/06 4:58 PM

Undefeated multiple Grade 3 winner BARBARO (Dynaformer) breezed four

furlongs in :48 at Palm Meadows on Monday in advance of an expected start in Saturday's $1 million

Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream Park. The move, under regular exercise rider

Peter Brett, was the second fastest of 25 at

the distance.

"He worked great. He's ready to go," trainer Michael Matz said. "He'll van

down there on the morning of the race."

The dark bay has won all four of his career starts, the first three on turf,

including the Laurel Futurity and Tropical Park Derby (G3). In his most recent

outing, Barbaro cruised to a three-quarters of a length victory in the Holy Bull

S. (G3) over a sloppy track at Gulfstream Park.

Edgar Prado, who rode Barbaro in the Holy Bull and Tropical Park Derby, returns

in the saddle.

Also at Palm Meadows on Monday, FLASHY BULL (Holy Bull), who was awarded

second via disqualification in the Fountain of Youth S. (G2) on March 4, breezed

four furlongs in :49 4/5 in preparation for the nine-furlong Florida Derby.
