Bayern arrives at Saratoga

Last updated: 8/20/14 6:05 PM

Grade 1 winner Bayern, 2-1 morning-line favorite for Saturday's $1.25 million

Travers, arrived at

Saratoga Race Course around 4 p.m. (EDT) Wednesday afternoon.

Bayern and multiple Grade 2-winning filly Fiftyshadesofhay, running in

Friday's Grade 1, $600,000 Personal Ensign, walked the courtyard of trainer John

Terranova's barn following the trip from California.

"It was very good, an easy ship," said Jim Barnes, assistant to Hall of Fame

trainer Bob Baffert. "That's one good thing about this horse; he's a good

traveler. It doesn't seem to faze him."

Bayern worked four furlongs Tuesday in :47 2/5 on Del Mar's Polytrack, the

second-fastest of 34 moves at the distance. The son of Offlee Wild will break

from post 2 in the 10-horse Travers, looking for his third consecutive victory

and second in a Grade 1.

A convincing winner of the Grade 2 Woody Stephens at Belmont Park June 7, the

dark bay colt exits a 7 1/4-length romp in the July 27 Haskell Invitational at

Monmouth Park.

"He's doing very good. We wouldn't have come otherwise," Barnes said. "If

you're going to come 2,500 miles, you have to make sure that they're hitting on

all cylinders. Everything seems good."

Barnes said Bayern will have a light gallop on Saratoga's main track Thursday

morning.
