Bayern (right) and

California Chrome (left) could meet up again in the Feb. 7 San

Antonio along with Shared Belief

(Breeders' Cup Ltd.)

Breeders' Cup Classic winner and Horse of the Year prospect Bayern worked

four furlongs at Santa Anita Saturday morning in 47 4/5 under regular rider

Martin Garcia. A winner in four of his last five starts, the Bob Baffert-trained

colt could make his four-year-old debut in the Grade 2 San Antonio on February

7.

"He went nice," the Hall of Fame trainer said of Bayern, who worked without

blinkers. "I took the blinkers off so he could work slower, so that was good,

but I'll put them back on when he runs.

"I haven't really decided on his next race. I'm just getting him ready. The

Dubai race (World Cup on March 28) is being considered. That's why I didn't run

him in the Malibu...But the Meydan track in Dubai now is totally different.

"I've got to see how it plays once they start running there. With the new

dirt, you don't know what's going to happen. I won't make the decision (on

Bayern's next race) until I have to."

The 1 1/8-mile San Antonio serves as a logical prep for the $10 million Dubai

World Cup.

At Los Alamitos, California Chrome worked five furlongs in blinkers under

regular rider Victor Espinoza in 1:00 3/5. A neck third in the Breeders' Cup

Classic, the dual classic winner and leading Horse of the Year contender is

expected to make his 2015 bow in the San Antonia before heading overseas for the

Dubai World Cup.

"He worked great," said Alan Sherman, trainer Art Sherman's son and

assistant. "The San Antonio should be a great race if everything comes

together."

The $500,000 San Antonio could attract another supremely talented

four-year-old in Shared Belief, winner of Friday's Grade 1 Malibu on Santa

Anita's opening-day. The male two-year-old champion of 2013 registered a

107 BRIS Speed rating for the neck victory, rebounding from a troubled fourth as

the favorite in the Breeders' Cup Classic, and the Jerry Hollendorfer-trained

gelding has now captured eight of nine career starts.
