BBAG Autumn Mixed Sale begins
During what seems an endless run of European Sales, Baden-Baden's Iffezheim
complex is the scene of the latest round of auctions on Thursday as BBAG host
its Autumn Mixed Sale. Offered over the two days, the 315-strong catalog, with
an additional 30-strong supplementary list, includes the usual mixture of
yearlings, foals, two-year-olds, horses in and out of training and broodmares,
which complements the Racing Festival at the local track.
In recent times, high-profile graduates have been led by Group 3 winner
Dalicia (Ger) (Acatenango), whose sale record of €400,000
four years ago still stands; Grade 2 queen Noble Stella (Ger) (Monsun); and
Group 2 victor Konig Turf (Big Shuffle). The past 12 months have seen two
yearlings who were led out unsold join the ranks of group winners: Earl of Fire
(Areion), winner of the Hamburger Meile (Ger-G3), and Antara (Platini), who
garnered the Preis der Deutschen Einheit (Ger-G3).
Gestut Wittekindshof consigns Hip No. 10, a daughter of Big Shuffle who is
closely related to listed winner and Goldene Peitsche (Ger-G2) third Le Big (Big
Shuffle). Also from Wittekindshof is hip 90, a Sholokhov three-parts brother to
last year's Maurice Lacroix-Trophy (Ger-G3) winner Serienhoehe (High Chaparral
[Ire]), who was also successful this term in Bremen's listed Derby-Trial before
finishing fourth in the Preis der Diana (German Oaks) (Ger-G1).
Gestut Bona's draft includes Hip 20, a Lomitas (GB) colt out of Group 3
victress Saldentigerin (Tiger Hill). Quadriga GmbH's Hip 87 is a Whipper colt
out of the classic-placed and listed-winning Quadrupa (Big Shuffle), while
Eckhard Auren's consignment features Hip 143, a Hawk Wing half-brother to this
year's Zukunfts-Rennen (Ger-G3) and Preis des Winterfavoriten (Ger-G3) runner-up
Noble Alpha (Shamardal), and Marlene Haller's Hip 280 is a full-brother to the
aforementioned Earl of Fire.
Among the horses in training is Gestut Rottgen's Hip 37, the four-year-old
listed winner Daressalam (Singspiel [Ire]), and Wolfgang Frohlich's Hip 41, the
five-year-old broodmare prospect Hashbrown (Big Shuffle). Fourth in the 2007
German One Thousand Guineas (Ger-G2), she is from the immediate family of the
useful Ballydoyle pair Jane Austen (Galileo) and Acapulco (Galileo [Ire]).
The foals include Hip 169, a daughter of Shamardal from the immediate family
of Konig Turf and Group 3 winner Konig Shuffle (Big Shuffle) from the draft of
Gestut Elsetal, as well as Gestut Hofgut Heymann's Hip 166, a daughter of
Hurricane Run (Ire) whose dam is a three-parts sister to this year's Grand Prix
de Paris (Fr-G1) winner and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fr-G1) third Cavalryman
(Halling).
