Last updated: 7/8/06 10:01 PM

Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsch's BE A RESIDENT (Open Forum) and Stewart

Hamblen's WRENICE (Uncle Abbie) captured their respective divisions of the

$125,000 Texas Stallion S. for two-year-olds at Lone Star Park on Saturday.

In the

colts' and geldings' division, Be a Resident got out to the early advantage under jockey

Clifton Berry and was able to maintain that edge throughout the 5 1/2-furlong

contest. The dark bay battled early between rivals while clocking fractions of

:21 4/5 and :45. Once into the straight, the Bret Calhoun trainee managed to

pull away, going five furlongs in :57 1/5 before finishing out in 1:03

4/5 over the fast track to post a 1 1/4-length margin at the wire.

Sent off as the 8-5 favorite, Be a Resident paid $5.20, $3.60 and $2.80

while leading exotics of $37.80 (exacta), $124 (trifecta) and $551.40 (7-4-1-8 superfecta). Holy Mission (Open Forum) gave

back $8 and $5.20 for second at 8-1 while

Mary's Gray Boy (Gold Regent) returned $3.40 for third at 3-1. Austin Lights (Hadif),

Hadacure (Hadif), Spoonerism (Gold Legend), Power Surge (Holzmeister), No Risk

No Gain (Gold Legend), Haveuseenthelight (Festival of Light), Country Legend

(Gold Legend), Hello Larry (Exciting Story) and Gamble Zone (Wild Zone) rounded

out the order of finish.

Be a Resident remains perfect in three attempts, having won the T.T.A. Sales

Futurity for males by a nose in his last outing. With his victory on Saturday, he

increased his earnings to $145,584. Bred in the Lone Star State by Ed Few, Be a

Resident is out of the multiple stakes-winning mare Western Lil (Western Trick),

whose most recent foal is a yearling filly by Exciting Story.

In the next race, it was the girls' turn to contest the

fillies'

edition of the Texas Stallion S. Despite an awkward break, Wrenice was able

to rush to the lead and battled through splits of :21 1/5 and :44 2/5 before

finally opening an advantage on her opponents. By the time the Randy

Mayfield-conditioned dark bay miss had completed five-eighths in :57 1/5, she

had opened up 3 1/2 lengths on her nearest rival and went on to post a 6

1/4-length margin in her maiden-breaking voyage while going 5 1/2 furlongs in

1:04 under jockey Bobby Walker Jr.

The juvenile miss left the gate as the 3-1 fourth choice to return $8.20,

$5.20 and $3.60, leading exotics of $122.40 (exacta), $427.80 (trifecta) and

$6,088.40 (3-8-1-9 superfecta). Stage Stop (Valid Expectations) rallied to gain

second at 21-1 to give back $13.20 and $7 with Lady Be Tru (Truluck) a

half-length back in third, who paid $3.20 for the show at 5-2. Comanche Vision (Commanchero)

completed the superfecta with Hermighty (Uncle Abbie), The Bunster (Hadif),

Dyna's Diva (Hadif), Clever Twist (Magic Cat), Party of One (Festival of Light),

Valid Katuna (Valid Expectations), Ana Martha (Gold Legend) and Hadif Cat (Hadif)

rounding out the order of finish.

Bred in Texas by Hamblen, Wrenice is out of the unraced mare Slew (Slewacide),

and improved her record to 4-1-2-0 with $103,346 in earnings. In her previous

start, she finished second in the T.T.A. Sales Futurity for fillies.

In other state-bred stakes on the day, Sandra Duke's DREAMSANDVISIONS

(Kipling) completed 1 1/16 miles in 1:43 3/5 to record a 2 3/4-length success

in the $75,000

Assault S.

In the $60,000

Allen

Bogan Memorial S., Clarence Scharbauer Jr.'s SHESABIGCAT (Magic Cat)

annexed the one-mile event by 2 3/4 lengths, going the distance in 1:37 4/5.

Millennium Farms' RAIN ON MONDAY (Pine Bluff) got up by a head to win the

$40,000 Harold V. Goodman Memorial

S., completing 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16. Tom Durant's

OPEN MEADOWS (Open Forum) emerged the best in the $40,000

Valor

Farm S., going six furlongs in 1:10 2/5.
