Journalism rates as 8-5 favorite over Sovereignty in 2025 Belmont Stakes

Sovereignty was last seen beating favored Journalism in the Kentucky Derby (G1), but the betting public is forecast to stick with Journalism in their hotly-anticipated rematch in Saturday's $2 million Belmont (G1) at Saratoga.

While Sovereignty skipped the Preakness (G1), Journalism wheeled back at Pimlico and scored an epic victory. Thus the son of Hall of Famer Curlin was tabbed as the 8-5 favorite on the morning line for the Belmont.

Sovereignty ranks as the 2-1 second choice. Also joining the Derby reunion is third-placer Baeza (4-1), a half-brother to last year's Belmont winner, Dornoch.

Rodriguez (6-1) and Hill Road (10-1), who would have competed in the classics if not for ill-timed setbacks, will get their chance. Wood Memorial (G2) victor Rodriguez was scratched from the Derby with a foot bruise. Hill Road was withdrawn from the Wood with a fever but rebounded in the Peter Pan (G3).

The Belmont is scheduled to go off at 7:04 p.m. ET Saturday, as the 13th of 14 races on a stellar card at the Spa.
