Blind Luck rates as 4-1 favorite in Oaks future wager

Last updated: 3/7/10 9:16 PM

She suffered a surprising defeat over the weekend, but the faith of racing

fans in BLIND LUCK (Pollard's Vision) was unshaken as trainer Jerry

Hollendforfer's filly was a start-to-finish favorite in Churchill Downs'

three-day 2010 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager (KOFW) when the betting pool concluded

Sunday evening.

Blind Luck finished a fast-closing third to CRISP (El Corredor) in Saturday's

Santa Anita Oaks (G1) over the synthetic Pro-Ride surface at Santa Anita, but

remained the 4-1 fans' choice in this year's only pool of the 2010 Kentucky Oaks

Future bet.

But she had plenty of competition close on her heels from AMEN HALLELUJAH (Montbrook),

winner of the Davona Dale (G2) and the KOFW's second choice at 6-1, and

CHRISTINE DAAE (Giant's Causeway), who was the 7-1 third choice although she has

yet to compete in a stakes race during her three-race career.  The mutuel

field, which included all three-year-old fillies other than the 23 individual

horses in Pool 2, also closed at 7-1.

A total of $61,901 was wagered in the 2010 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager.

Winning payouts in the 2010 pool will be determined by the official order of

finish in the 136th running of the $500,000 Kentucky Oaks (G1), America's

premier race for three-year-old fillies, at Churchill Downs on April 30.

Despite her victory over Blind Luck in Saturday's Santa Anita Oaks, Crisp

remained a 20-1 risk when wagering on the three-day pool concluded Sunday

evening at 6:30 p.m. (EST), 30 minutes after the close of Pool 2 of the

companion Kentucky Derby Future Wager. ALL DUE RESPECT (Value Plus), the

runner-up in the Santa Anita Oaks, saw her odds drop from 66-1 at the beginning

of Sunday's wagering to her final odds of 30-1.

SHE BE WILD (Offlee Wild), the winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies

(G1) and the champion two-year-old filly of 2009, closed at 15-1 in the Oaks

Future Pool. Other fillies that attracted solid support from racing fans across

North America included NEGLIGEE (Northern Afleet) and BIOFUEL (Stormin Fever),

both of whom stood at odds of 19-1 at the close of Sunday's betting. Frizette

(G1) winner DEVIL MAY CARE (Malibu Moon) was a 21-1 risk and was followed by the

D. Wayne Lukas-trained TIDAL POOL (Yankee Gentleman) at 23-1; Breeders' Cup

Juvenile Fillies runner-up BEAUTICIAN (Dehere) at 25-1; the Bob Baffert-trained

ALWAYS A PRINCESS (Leroidesanimaux [Brz]) at closing odds of 27-1; and JODY SLEW

(Slew City Slew), winner of the Silverbulletday (G3), who was a 29-1 shot.

Churchill Downs' Kentucky Oaks Future Wager provides racing fans the

opportunity to place an early pari-mutuel wager on contenders for the $500,000

Kentucky Oaks. The 1 1/8-mile contest will be run on the eve of the $2 million

Kentucky Derby (G1). The Kentucky Oaks Future bet is a $2 minimum "win" wager.

There are no scratches and no refunds in the Oaks Future Bet.

More information on the race is available at www.kentuckyoaks.com, the
