Broken Vow colt tops opening session at OBS
A colt by Broken Vow sold for the top price of $625,000 at Tuesday's opening session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's March Sale of Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training. Zayat Stables purchased the colt, named RED VOW, from the consignment of O & H Bloodstock, agent. The bay colt is a half-brother to Eishin Hampton (Dynaformer), a stakes winner in Japan, and Level Red (Aptitude), who finished third in the 2007 San Felipe S. (G2). He is out of Sedona Berry (Strawberry Road [Aus]), a daughter of multiple stakes winner and Grade 3-placed Tromphe de Naskra (Naskra), who also produced 1995 Flower Bowl Invitational H. (G1) heroine Northern Emerald (Green Dancer). Red Vow previously sold for $65,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. At the first under tack show on March 9, he breezed a quarter-mile in :21 2/5. The session-topper was cataloged as Hip No. 64. A colt by Pure Prize sold for $550,000 to John Ferguson, who was bidding on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum. Consigned by Leprechaun Racing, agent, the Florida-bred juvenile is a half-brother to 2008 OBS Sprint S. victress Banga Ridge (Snow Ridge), who has won four-of-nine starts and $118,000. The chestnut colt is out of Time for a Crown (Time for a Change), a half-sister to stakes-placed winners Marquesa Jen (Marquetry) and Carson Gem (Carson City). The latter is the dam of Grade 3 winner E Z Warrior (Exploit), who finished third in last year's King's Bishop S. (G1) at Saratoga. At the first under tack preview, the colt worked an eighth-mile in :10. Cataloged as Hip 128, the youngster previously sold for $30,000 at the 2007 OBS August Yearling Sale. The highest-price filly fetched $550,000 from Tom Gentry, agent. By Mr. Greeley, the dark bay lass is the first foal out of the unraced Tale of the Cat mare Bacardi Cat, a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Jade Hunter (Mr. Prospector). Her second dam, stakes winner Jadana (Ire) (Pharly), is a half-sister to English and Irish champion two-year-old Monteverdi (Ire) (Lyphard).

Cataloged as Hip 199, she previously RNA'ed for $245,000 at last year's
Keeneland September auction.
On Tuesday, 110 horses sold for $15,734,500, a 29.2 percent increase compared
to the same session a year ago when 126 horses brought an aggregate of
$12,182,000. The average price soared 47.9 percent, from $96,683 to $143,041.
The sale concludes Wednesday with the final session beginning at 11 a.m.
