Buffalo Man, Green Vegas headline Day of Champions

Last updated: 2/11/07 8:35 PM

BUFFALO MAN (El Prado [Ire]) and GREEN VEGAS (Trippi), the one-three

finishers in the Spectacular Bid S. last out, will face off on Monday in the

$100,000 Ocala Breeders' Sales (OBS) Championship S. for three-year-old colts and geldings. The 1

1/16-mile test is the featured event on the 18th annual Day of Champions, a

six-race, non-wagering program at the Ocala Training Center.

Buffalo Man broke his maiden in his debut at Monmouth Park last season by 4 1/4

lengths, then took an allowance over that track by 2 1/2 lengths. Just three

parts of a length back in third in the Sapling S. (G3) next out, the Cam Gambolati-trained bay left Monmouth for the first time to try the Champagne S.

(G1) at Belmont Park in October.

After running off the board that day, Buffalo Man rounded out his juvenile campaign

with a dominating 7 3/4-length win in the Storm Cat S. at Meadowlands in his

two-turn bow. He came three wide to capture the Spectacular Bid in his

sophomore debut, followed by Green Vegas, who was just a length and a neck

back in third.

Green Vegas has finished off the board only once from nine career starts so

far and is a two-time stakes winner. One of those stakes scores came in the In

Reality division of the Florida Stallion S., and the Luis Olivares trainee will

try to turn the tables on his rival Monday.

Other contenders in the Championship S. include Grey Breeders' Cup S.

(Can-G3) winner SKIP CODE (Skip Away); IDIDN'TDOANYTHING (Trippi), who was fourth

in the Sunshine Millions Dash S.; and NO REPLY (Deputy Commander), fourth in the

Count Fleet S.

The complete field, with riders, is HONOR AMERICA (Honour and Glory), Richard

Eramia; STEELIX (Pine Bluff), Jose Lezcano; GREYCLIFF EXCHANGE (Exchange Rate),

Thomas Pompell; WONDEROUS GLORY (Three Wonders), Elvis Trujillo; Buffalo Man,

Edgar Prado; SLAM MY HEART (Grand Slam), Joe Bravo; POINT GOLD (Point Given),

no rider; Ididn'tdoanything, Julien Leparoux; No Reply, Fernando Jara; RED LINE

(Unbridled Time), Daniel Centeno; Green Vegas, Eibar Coa; and BELLO PAPPA (Snow

Ridge), Luis Gonzalez.

All starters will carry 122 pounds.

The day begins with three-year-old fillies going six furlongs in the $50,000

OBS Sprint S. That will be followed by the colts and geldings division of

the $50,000

OBS

Sprint S., also at three-quarters; the $45,000

Florida Thoroughbred Charities S. for three-year-olds and up going five

furlongs; the $45,000

Florida

Breeders' Distaff S. sending fillies and mares 8 1/2 furlongs; the $100,000
