Cacique headed to Banstead Manor Stud at end of season

Last updated: 9/10/06 9:00 PM

Juddmonte Farm's homebred CACIQUE (Ire) (Danehill), impressive winner of

Saturday's Man o' War S. (G1), will head to Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket at

the end of the season, according to Juddmonte Racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe,

who made the announcement after the Prix Niel (Fr-G2) victory of the stable's

Rail Link (Dansili [GB]).

"(Cacique) will be retired at the end of the season to stand at Banstead

Manor Stud," he stated.

The five-year-old Cacique started his career in France, winning the Prix

Daphnis (Fr-G3), Prix Daniel Wildenstein (Fr-G2) and Prix du Chemin de Fer du

Nord (Fr-G3) while also placing in Group 1 company three times,

including the Prix d'Ispahan (Fr-G1).

For this season, the dark bay ran second in the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (G1)

at Churchill in May, before recording his first success at the highest level

when taking the June 10 Manhattan H. (G1) at Belmont Park. Cacique was runner-up

in both the United Nations S. (G1) and Arlington Million (G1) before adding to

his resume with a 1 3/4-length score in the Man o' War.

"He looked pretty good yesterday," said Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel,

adding that his charge came out of the race in good order.

Frankel also said that Cacique is expected to make his next appearance in the

November 4 Breeders' Cup Turf (G1) at Churchill Downs and, if he ran in that

event, he probably wouldn't have a prep between now and then.
