Richard C. Pell's Calculator (In Summation), who vaulted into prominence on

the Kentucky Derby (G1) trail with a dynamic victory in the

January 10 Sham S. (G3), has been ruled out of Triple Crown consideration

with an undisclosed injury. Jay Privman of Daily Racing Form broke the

news Sunday.

Calculator just worked five furlongs in a bullet 1:00 2/5 Saturday, best of

10 moves at the distance at San Luis Rey Downs, and even merited a "breezing"

designation. Unfortunately, in the aftermath, trainer Peter Miller realized

something was amiss.

"We're hoping for a full recovery, for a fall campaign," Miller told Privman.

Although a maiden through four starts as a juvenile, Calculator garnered a

high profile with runner-up efforts behind champion American Pharoah (Pioneerof

the Nile) in both the September 3 Del Mar Futurity (G1) and September 27

FrontRunner (G1). He was entered in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1), only to be

scratched because of an injury to his left front foot.

Rebounding with a vengeance to break his maiden by 4 1/4 lengths in the Sham,

Calculator was expected to contest the February 21 Risen Star (G2) at Fair

Grounds. He has compiled a record of 5-1-2-1, $193,500.
