Century Park wires Santa Ysabel
Donald R. Dizney's homebred CENTURY PARK (General Meeting) took the lead soon
after the start of Sunday's $100,000
Santa Ysabel S. (G3) at Santa Anita Park
and strolled through easy fractions of :24 2/5, :48 4/5, 1:13 2/5 and 1:37 en
route to a one-length victory. With jockey Tyler Baze aboard, the Bob
Baffert-trained sophomore miss finished the 1 1/16-mile Pro-Ride test in 1:43
1/5 to reward her backers with payouts of $51.40, $21.20 and $12 as the 24-1
second longest shot on the board.
Haka (Dynaformer) was content to stalk in midpack while saving ground on the
rail, and put in her bid during the stretch run. The bay lass rallied well on
the inside, but couldn't get to the winner in time, returning $5.20 and $4.40 as
the 3-1 favorite. Will O Way (Broken Vow) was another 1 1/2 lengths behind in
third at 6-1 and gave back $6.20. The $1 exotics were worth $129 (exacta), $864
(trifecta) and $4,200.10 (5-2-7-6 superfecta).
Lady Lumberjack (Forestry) was a head farther back in fourth, and finishing
the order under the wire were Acting Lady (Theatrical [Ire]), Dave's Revenge (The Cliff's Edge), Toro Bonito (El Corredor), Crazy Tricia (Momentum)
and Jemmealey (Malibu Moon).
Century Park broke her maiden on Hollywood Park's turf by one length on
November 2, but wasn't able to make an impact in her stakes debut 26 days later
in the Miesque S. (G3). That race rounded out the dark bay's juvenile campaign,
and she started 2009 on a winning note with this victory. The Florida-bred lass
has now run her record to 7-2-2-1, $109,360.
Century Park is out of Ecclesiastes (Saint Ballado) and counts multiple
stakes-placed North Rodeo (Stephen Got Even) as a half-sister. She also has a
pair of younger half-brothers, an unnamed juvenile by Quiet American and unnamed
Aptitude yearling. Ecclesiastes is herself a half-sister to multiple Grade 2
victress Career Collection (General Meeting), and she comes from the family of Grade 1-placed stakes winner
Minor Details (General Meeting).
