Cherokee Run colt tops seventh session

A colt by Cherokee Run sold for the top price of $325,000 to Gulf Coast Farm

at Monday's session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in Lexington,

Kentucky. Cataloged as Hip No. 2246, the bay colt is the third foal out of

Informative (Tabasco Cat), who finished third in the 2000 Jersey Jumper S. and

earned $83,249 from a record of 11-3-0-2.

His second dam, multiple stakes winner and Grade 2-placed Virgin Michael

(Green Dancer), is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner and $566,018-earner Virginia

Rapids (Riverman).

The Kentucky-bred colt, who was foaled on February 7, was consigned by Three

Chimneys Sales, agent.

Gulf Coast Farm also snapped up the day's most expensive filly, going to

$230,000 to secure a daughter of Cape Town, Hip 2426, from the consignment of

Woods Edge Farm (Peter O'Callaghan), agent. The April 12 Kentucky-bred was

produced by Taba Star (Southern Halo), who is a half-sister to Turkoman (Alydar),

the champion older horse of 1986 and an earner of $2,146,924. The dark bay

filly's second dam, Argentinean champion Taba (Arg) (Table Play), is herself a

full sister to another Argentinean champion in Telescopico.

On Monday, 288 horses sold for $20,517,500, an increase of 5.9 percent

compared to the same session last year when 284 horses brought $19,377,000. The

average price rose 4.4 percent, from $68,229 to $71,241, while the median price

remained unchanged at $55,000.

Thus far, 1,697 horses have realized $324,091,200, a decrease of 7.4 percent

compared to 2006 when 1,729 changed hands for $349,955,500. The average price is

down 5.6 percent, from $202,403 to $190,979. The median price, however, is up 20

percent, from $100,000 to $120,000.
