Jay and Gretchen Manoogian's BATTLE WON (Honour and Glory) relished his

return to the main track Saturday when victorious in the $231,000

Churchill Downs H.

(G2). The Charles Simon trainee rated in second through the first two points of

call as Trickey Trevor (Demaloot Demashoot) set fractions of :22 1/5 and :44.

Jockey Ramon Dominguez then sent his mount to the lead on the outside and Battle

Won started pulling away on the fast track, passing the six furlong mark in 1:07

4/5 and completing the seven-furlong event in 1:20 2/5, tying the track record.

"The race went as the trainer expected," Dominguez said. "He was very

confident in this horse. (Battle Won) likes to be close to the pace, so

the track helped us today."

The winning five-year-old rewarded his backers well, paying $35.80, $17 and

$10.40 at nearly 17-1 while leading exotics of $891.60 (exacta), $8,044.60

(trifecta) and

$11,779.50 for the 5-6-12-11 superfecta ($1). Level Playingfield (Level Sands)

finished second, 3 1/2 lengths back, and returned $37 and $14.40 at 50-1. Pomeroy

(Boundary) rounded out the top three and gave $4 for his third-place effort as the 3-1

favorite.

Sir Shackleton (Miswaki), Harvard Avenue (You and I), Hasty Kris (Kissin

Kris), Trickey Trevor, Grand Reward (Storm Cat), Oceanus (Brz) (Rainbow Corner

[GB]), Gold Storm (Seeking the Gold) and Rushin' to Altar (Pulpit) rounded out

the order of finish. Lion Tamer (Will's Way) was scratched from the race.

This was Battle Won's first start on the dirt since a close third against

optional-claiming company in July of last year at Saratoga and is his first

graded stakes score. The dark bay, who was purchased by his connections at the 2001

Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $325,000, improved his record to 15-7-2-2

with $407,436 in earnings. Bred in Kentucky by Glencrest

Farm LLC, the gelding is out of stakes winner Call Her (Caller I. D.) and is a full

brother to an unnamed yearling colt and a 2005 filly.
