Willow wires Cinema

Robert A Alexander's WILLOW O WISP (Misnomer) was allowed to set a slow early

pace, and then displayed a strong closing kick en route to an easy two-length

tally in the $153,450

Cinema Breeders' Cup H. (G3) at Hollywood Park on Sunday.

Trained by Vladimir Cerin and piloted by Garret Gomez, the three-year-old

gelding set fractions of :25, :48 4/5, 1:12 4/5 and 1:36 4/5, before completing

nine firm grassy furlongs in 1:48 2/5. The 5-2 third choice paid $7.60, $3 and

$2.20, while topping the $6.20 exacta ($1) and $32.70 trifecta ($1).

Osidy (Storm Cat) rode the rail slightly off the pace until the turn for home, but

could not reel in the winner in the latter stages. The 4-5 choice was good for $2.40 and $2.10.

Honorable Coach (Double Honor) garnered the show at 21-1, worth $2.60, and

was followed by Legal Precedent (Theatrical [Ire]) and Johnny High Brite (High

Brite). Sultry Bard (Sultry Song) was scratched.

Willow O Wisp boosted his bankroll to $179,240 while moving his mark to

10-3-1-1. The dark bay was second in the Will Rogers S. (G3) most recently.

The winner was bred in Florida by Fred W. Pace and produced from the winning

Willow Woodman (Woodman). Willow O Wisp has an unraced two-year-old half-brother named

Witchy Willow (Northern Afleet), an unnamed yearling half-sister by Doneraile

Court and an unnamed 2005 half-brother by Evansville Slew.
