Coastline, Rise Up highlight Delta Jackpot
|
Coastline, a three-length winner of the October 27 Street Sense at Churchill Downs, has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite in Saturday's $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot. The 11th running of the Grade 3 event will feature a full field of 10 two-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles. The Delta Downs Jackpot is the featured event on an 11-race card that contains eight stakes and is part of the "Prep Season" portion of the 2013-2014 Road to the Kentucky Derby series, offering points on a 10-4-2-1 scale to the first four finishers. An easy maiden winner at Keeneland two starts back, Coastline is trained by Mark Casse, who also the captured the Vinton, Louisiana track's signature event in 2007 with the dead-heating Turf War. Coastline is a son of top sire Speightstown and the Kentucky-bred gray colt earned a field-best 96 BRIS Speed rating when capturing his stakes debut in the Street Sense. He will start from post 2 with regular rider Shaun Bridgmohan.

Rise Up, a dominant scorer in the local prep, the October 26 Jean Lafitte,
will have to overcome the far outside post Saturday. The Tom Amoss-trained colt
has recorded runaway victories in two of his last three outings, posting a 4
3/4-length win in the Mountaineer Juvenile two starts prior to his 6 1/2-length
tally in the Jean Lafitte, and speedy son of Rockport Harbor will be piloted by
Gerard Melancon, who picked up the mount last time. Rise Up is listed as the 3-1
second choice on the morning line.

Casiguapo, who exits a commendable pair of efforts versus Grade 1 rivals in New York, comes next on the morning line at 4-1. Based at Calder with trainer Mario Morales, the Sightseeing colt shipped to Saratoga to finish second in the Hopeful Stakes before a fourth in the Champagne last out. He figures to appreciate the class relief after competing against the likes of Havana, Honor Code and Strong Mandate in those starts. Luis Saez retains the mount on the chestnut. Doug O'Neill, who was represented by the winning Goldencents last year, will try to capture back-to-back editions when he sends out Rum Point. A maiden winner on Del Mar's Polytrack, Rum Point exits a 12th in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, his first start on dirt, and has made his last three starts against Grade 1 competition. Mario Gutierrez will be in to ride Rum Point. Other runners include Mighty Brown and Flat Gone, the respective runner-up and third-placer in the Jean Lafitte; Grade 3 Grey Stakes runner-up Big Bazinga; and impressive Keeneland debut winner Rankhasprivileges.
