Coli Bear tops final session at Fasig-Tipton

Stakes winner COLI BEAR (Formal Dinner), who most recently finished sixth in

the Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Sprint on January 26 at Santa Anita, sold for

the top price of $200,000 to G. Chris Coleman at Monday's final session of the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale in Lexington. Offered as a racing or

broodmare prospect, the five-year-old mare was consigned by Crossroads Sales

Agency, agent.

Coli Bear won the 2006 Rehoboth S. at Delaware Park and placed in six

additional black-type events, including the Endine H. (G3). To date, she has

earned $378,070 from a record of 27-10-3-7.

Offered early in the session as Hip No. 298, Coli Bear is out of the Crafty

Prospector mare Crafty Marian. Her third dam is the stakes-winning, stakes

producer She's Sofine (Bold Hour).

Hip 314, stakes winner CUTE COGNAC (Hennessy), fetched $180,000 from Robert

S. West Jr., agent. The four-year-old filly, who was offered as a broodmare

prospect, won the 2007 Office Miss S. at Belmont Park. She finished first or

second in each of her five career starts and earned $121,800.

Consigned by Thomas J. Gallo Sales Agency, agent for Born to Run, Cute Cognac

is a half-sister to stakes winner Gratiaen (Cure the Blues). She is out of the

unraced Deputy Minister mare Adorable Minister, a half-sister to Grade 3 winner

Adcat (Storm Cat) and stakes winner Adorydar (Alydar). Her second dam is Grade 3

winner Adorable Micol (Riverman).

On Monday, 159 horses sold for $3,180,100, a decrease of 12.7 percent

compared to the same session last year, when 176 horses sold for $3,643,000. The

average price declined 3.4 percent, from $20,699 to $20,001, while the median

price fell 10 percent, from $8,000 to $7,200.

Overall for the two-day auction, 318 horses sold for $6,452,400, an increase

of 1.9 percent compared to a year ago when 371 horses realized $6,332,300. The

average price rose 18.9 percent, from $17,068 to $20,291, while the median price

was unchanged at $7,000. There were 103 horses reported as not sold, compared to

125 in 2007.
